A plug or socket connector of the type described in Specification 722,644 in which the plug PC and socket SC are assembled from identical parts, i.e. core blocks 20, end caps 21 and bifurcated contacts 23 retained in cavities 22, a U-shaped handle 30 secured thereto by a bolt 24 passing through aligned apertures in the parts of the connector body. The ends of the handle 30 are pressed against end caps 21 by a clamp 33 having tabs 34 which abut opposite sides of the caps 21 to prevent rotation of the handle about the bolt. In a connector having twenty or more contacts the units are mounted in two or more stacks (Fig. 9, not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 12 a U- shaped combined cover and handle 38 encloses the wires 39, end clamps 40 being mounted on the cover by inturned edges 41, a tongue 42 formed on flange 43 of cap 40 interfitting with a hole 44 in cover 38. A wire retaining clamp 45 consists of two parts 46 and has tongues 48 movable in slots 49 in cover 38. An earthing clip 50 may be provided (Fig. 14), and has a flange 51 to fit cap 40 to prevent rotation of the former on bolt 24A and fingers 53 which engage the surface of the cover of a mating connector. In a further embodiment (Figs. 16-18, 19-21, not shown) units are mounted in two or more stacks and have a cover and end clamps as before. In a modification (Fig. 18A) the metal end clamps 56A and U-shaped metal cover 55A have flared ends to surround contacts 23. Specification 793,881 also is referred to.
