836,581. Measuring fabrics. HOSIERY & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIA. TION. March 7, 1957 [Jan. 12, 1956], No. 1063/56. Class 42 (2). A machine for measuring the length of ladies' hose after knitting comprises two spaced anchorages 3, 4 for attaching the hose and means for stretching the hose until a predetermined tension is reached and an indicator 22 for reading off the length of the stretched hose. As shown, an operating roller 9 is mounted for sliding movement in a slot 10 and is carried by a saddle 11 slidable on guide-rods 12, 13 and provided with a nut which engages a lead screw 17 which is operated by an electric motor 15. The hose is mounted on the anchorages 3, 4 and is looped over rollers 7, 8 and roller 9. The motor is started by a switch 32 and moves the roller 9 to impart tension to the hose. The anchorage 4 comprises an arm 4a pivoted on an axle 4b on which is mounted a lever 5a having a weight 5b adjustably mounted on one end and at the other end a link 5c connected to the arm 6a of an electric switch 6. Movement of the roller 9 imparts tension to the hose until the weight 5b is moved and operates the switch 6 and stops the motor 15. The length of the hose is given by the position of the indicator 22. By raising a handle 21 the nut may be moved out of contact with the screw 17 so that the hose may be easily removed.
