Abstract

576,001. Knitting-machines. BERRIDGE & CO., Ltd., I. L., and COLTON, L. H. Nov. 4, 1943, No. 18274. [Class 74 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] Thread-feeding means comprising a pair of conical rollers 10, 11 or equivalent tapered feeding members and means responsive to the thread tension for determining the position of the thread axially of the tapered members is provided with electrical apparatus for so moving the thread axially of the members. The thread-feeding means may be employed for supplying an elastic thread to the needles of a circular knitting- machine under substantially constant tension. In one form, the thread 2 is passed around a jockey pulley 5 supporting a shutter 16 arranged between a light source 17 and a photo-electric cell 18. The cell 18 is in circuit with a motor 19 in such manner as to vary the resistance of the motor field circuit to vary the speed of the motor. A governor 20 driven by the motor is connected to the arm 8 carrying the thread guide 7. In a modification, the jockey pulley 5 is carried by a lever provided with a wiper in contact with a variable resistance in the motor circuit.
