Abstract

836,010. Making piston valves. DOWTY EQUIPMENT Ltd. May 3, 1957 [May 3, 1956], No. 13716/56. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] A spool-type piston valve (see Group XXIX) is made by dividing a cylinder 13 on a longitudinal plane into separate halves, grinding or otherwise accurately finishing the mating faces of these halves, forming one or more recesses across the finished face of one or each half to constitute non-circular flow control ports such as the narrow elongated ports 30, 31, securing the halves together in a valve body 5 which has openings to fluid connection points thereon, and then accurately forming a longitudinal valve bore 21, intersected by the dividing plane, to receive a valve spool 22 which co-operates with the flow control ports. The ports 30, 31 are intended to provide a substantially linear relationship between valve movement and fluid flow. The invention may be applied to the manufacture of small valves of one-eighth inch bore or thereabouts.
