Abstract

835,865. Crystal rectifiers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. July 22, 1958, No. 23454/58. Class 37. A crystal rectifier comprises a PN junction wafer 7 soldered to base electrode body 1 and to the U-shaped flat portion of, for example, a silver wire 12 in a tube 10 sealed, for example, by a glass-metal seal to a metal cap 8 having a flange 11 which rests in an annular groove in body 1. Flange 11 is sealed to body 1 by pressing over the rim portion of body 1, and, if desired, by adding a fillet 31 of solder or resin material. The semi-conductor may consist of germanium or silicon with gold, phosphorus or boron as impurities. The arrangement of electrode 12 allows for thermal expansion. Body 1 may have a screwed extension 2 for chassis mounting. Connection to wire electrode 12 may be made by means of tubular braided flexible lead and a ductile metal ferrule, which may be colour coded.
