Abstract
835,650. Gyroscopic apparatus. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. March 6, 1958 [April 3, 1957], No. 7190/58. Class 97(3) In a gyrovertical, a spherical indicator shell is pivoted about an axis parallel to but displaced from the axis of an inner gimbal carrying the rotor and is mechanically coupled to this gimbal. As shown, rotor casing 20 is carried on a steel trunnion 42 (constituting the inner gimbal) jcurnalled in an outer sheet steel rectangular gimbal 13 carried in bearings 14 and 15. Truncated spherical indicator shell 24 is carried by arms 45 having coaxial shafts 44. Shafts 44 are journalled in bearings 26 carried on plates 56 which are adjustably mounted on gimbal 13 to vary the distance between meshing gears 41 and 43 fixed on trunnion 42 and shaft 44, respectively. Weight 46 counterbalances arm 45. The angle of bank is indicated by meridianal line 31 on bank index scale 34 and the two halves of the shell 24 above and below the horizon line 32 are differently coloured. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 666,615.
