Abstract

369,360. Directional reception and transmission of wave energy regulating- switches. ELECTROACUSTIC G E S., Werk Ravensberg, Kiel, Germany. Feb. 26, 1931, No. 6095. Convention date, April 3, 1930. [Class 118 (ii).] In apparatus for the reception of wave energy from, or its transmission to, any direction in space by the interference method, oscillators are arranged on the surface of a sphere or on a plurality of concentric spheres and are connected through a compensator to a common generator or indicator. The spherical surface on which the oscillators are mounted may be rotated to some extent so that transmission and reception may be effected with equal accuracy in all directions in space. Fig. 3 shows the manner in which the connections 45, 46, 47 from the oscillators are connected to the compensator retardation line K. On the surface of a fixed sphere 22 are a number of conducting strips 1, 2, 3, &c., insulated from one another and each connected to one section of the retardation line K. Pivoted on the axis 23 of the sphere 22 is a forked arm 24 rotatably carrying a shaft 25 to the lower end of which is attached a hemispherical shell 27. On this shell are fixed contacts 30 .. 40 connected to the oscillators and bearing on the strips 1, 2, 3. The contacts are connected to the oscillators by lines 45, 46, 47 and slip rings 42, 43, 44. The oscillators may be symmetrically arranged on the sphere and the contacts 30 .. 40 similarly arranged on the hemisphere. A generator or an indicating or recording device F is connected to the retardation line. The adjustment for altitude is effected by turning the hemisphere about the axis 23 and that for azimuth by turning it about the axis 25 by a hand-wheel 26, suitable scales being provided. Specifications 348,660, 355,742, and 360,565 are referred to.
