Abstract

835,220. Television pick-up tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 22, 1956 [May 21, 1955], No. 14706/55. Class 39(1). A member, such as a cylinder 12 supporting mesh 10 in a television pick-up tube, is mounted in the envelope by first positioning the member and then heating the envelope over a region or at discrete points 20 while the gas pressure is reduced below atmospheric so that the wall of the envelope collapses on to the member and engages it firmly. The mesh may be used first as a stencil in forming the mosaic target and then finally positioned to act as a stabilising electrode as described in Specification 600,520. Cylinder 12 may consist of glass with a conducting coating and an ion trap mesh 11 may be provided at the end of a short cylinder or metal or metallized glass which is mounted within the end of the cylinder 12. A further locating dimple 18 is provided in the wall of the envelope. The flexible lead 14 to the mesh 10 may be adjusted by inserting a tool through an aperture 17 in the cylinder 12 in the course of manufacture. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 763,545.
