Abstract
835,063. Door &c. operating-appliances. G.M.E. CORPORATION. June 7, 1957 [June 11, 1956], No. 18235/57. Class 65(1) [Also in Group XXXIII] Equipment for effecting movement of a panel or cover 18 pivotally mounted on a fixed support, e.g. rectangular open front housing 13, through an angle of substantially 270 degrees comprises a pair of actuators, e.g. hydraulic units 84, 85 arranged on each side of the housing 13. The unit 84 is actuated and rotates the panel 18 to a predetermined position as shown in Fig. 3 so that a line extending from the pivotal panel mount 88 to the pivotal mount 81 on the fixed support is located on one side of the panel pivot 24, while a line extending from the pivotal panel mount 88. to the pivotal mount 81 on the fixed support is located on one side of the panel pivot 24, while a line extending from the pivotal panel mount 88 to the pivotal mount 82 of the unit 85 is located on the other side of the panel pivot 24. On retraction of the plunger 87 of the unit 85 the panel completes its movement to lie in a substantially horizontal plane over the top wall 17 of the housing 13. A hatch opening 12 is covered by a panel or cover 41 hingedly connected to the panel 18 and operation of the valve 136 in the electro-hydraulic circuit of Fig. 7 allows fluid under pressure to flow to hydraulic unit 66 thus rotating the panel 41 into a vertical position where it opens valve 154 and fluid passes from junction 132 to valve 158. Valve 136 is moved to a neutral position and valve 158 is operated to permit fluid to pass through valve 188 to hydraulic unit 84 thereby pivoting the panel 18 until it reaches the predetermined position when cam 93 attached to hinge 24 actuates switch 221 to energize solenoids 191, 192 of valves 183, 184 and through time delay relay 222 to solenoid 170 of valve 168 allowing pressure fluid to flow from valve 158, junction 165, valve 168 to hydraulic unit 84 to maintain pressure and retain the panel 18 in the pre-determined position, and from junction 165 valve 188 to hydraulic unit 85 to retract the plunger 87. After a period to allow the pressure to build up in the unit 85, the time delay relay 222 breaks the circuit to solenoid 170 and the pressure fluid to hydraulic unit 84 is cut off whereupon the continued pressure in unit 85 effects the remainder of the 270 degree arc of movement of the panel 18. To close the panel the procedure is reversed. Fluid under pressure is provided from a reservoir 125, by motor driven pump 123 to accumulator 129 to charge the system; flow restrictors e.g. 134 may be fitted. Latches may be provided around the periphery of the hatch opening 12 and comprise latch plates 95, pivotally mounted at 96 to the vertical flange 97 of the sealing rail 61. A ring member 99 extends tends through an opening 98 in the plate 95 and may engage a hook 101 on the wall 59 of the cover 41. The opening 98 is so positioned that with the ring member engaging the hook 101, the plate 95 may be rotated in a counter clockwise direction so that the opening 98 will be to the right and below the pivot 96 to retain the cover in its closed position.
