Abstract

834,969. Jet-propulsion plant. HOTCHKISS-BRANDT. April 29, 1958 [May 2, 1957], No. 13522/68. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXI] A nozzle T screwed into a projectile body 1 is closed by an ignition device P held in position by a shearable ring 56 and a nut 57 which secured an obturator disc 70 against the rear of -the device P. The hub 52 of a finned tail Q is screwed on to the nozzle and surrounds the forward end of a tube R for housing a launching cartridge, the tube R being secured by shearpins 84 and a resilient split-ring 83. Screwed into the tube R is a plug 86 having a cylindroconical recess 88 communicating with four equi-spaced radial slots 90, 91 leading to openings 92, 93 in the hub 52. Two opposed slots 90, 91 grip a rib 77 on the disc 70, so that by turning the tube R through 90 degrees the disc 70 can be rotated from a position in which two openings 74 in the disc coincide with passages 68, Fig. 3, in the device P to a position in which the disc 70 masks these passages, the first position of the obturator being used when the projectile is to be propelled only by the gases from the launching charge and the second position when the projectile is to be selfpropelled.
