831,759. Valves. DOLE VALVE CO. Oct. 21, 1957, No. 32820/57. Class 135. A thermostatic valve for the cooling system of an internal-combustion engine comprises a body 14 having a valve seat 17 on its upstream side spaced radially outwardly from a flow opening 29, a guide 31 radially inward of the opening on the downstream side, a supporting member 36 extending from one side and carrying the relatively stationary reaction member 26 of a temperature-responsive element having a movable casing 25 loosely supported in the guide and carrying a valve closure member 20 on the upstream side. Due to the loose fit of the temperature element plunger 26 in the end of member 36, the valve can tilt to reduce fluttering on initial opening and reduce leakage due to dirt when closed. The member 36 has T- ends 34 snapping into T-slots 33 in the body and prevented from being dislodged by valve closing spring 38 bearing between a guide groove 32 and a collar 39 on casing 25, leakage through the slots and guide being prevented when the valve closes on the upstream side of the body.
