Abstract
875,006. Valves. ROBERTSHAW-FULTON CONTROLS CO. March 10, 1959 [June 23, 1958], No. 8264/59. Class 135. A thermostatic valve has a main valve 62 controlling flow from a side-wall inlet 38 to outlet 66 guided in an aperture 25 in an end casing wall 20 and operated against spring 80 by a thermal element 52 disposed in an aperture 32 in the other end wall 28 which supports a valve seat 48 for valve 62, the valve 62 yieldably carrying e.g. via wire springs 90 and sliding stop arms 84, 86, a by-pass valve 82 controlling a side-wall by-pass opening at 14. On contraction of thermal piston 50, flange 70 seats at 48 and flow passes from the inlet to the by-pass opening. On temperature rise, valve 62 leaves seat 48 and moves valve 82 on to the by-pass seat. Further expansion of element 52 moves valve 62 upwardly relative to valve 82 by compressing the inverted U-springs 90 supported between tangs 88 on guide arms 84 and flange 72 on valve 62.
