Abstract
831,576. Cigarette-making machines. AMF Ltd., [formerly INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY CO. Ltd.]. July 3, 1958 [July 30, 1957], No. 24065/57. Class 130. Stationary steadying discs 9, 10 bear at their rims 12 on a rotary knife 1 subdividing filter-tip cigarette assemblies 4 lying in flutes 3 of a rotary drum 2. The discs 9, 10 are arcuately cut away to clear the drum 2 and knife-grinding wheels 7, 8 and one disc 9 is hinged at 19 to allow access to the knife and bears thereon by snap-over spring loading 22. Rotation of the assemblies 4 during sub-division is prevented by freely rotatable nylon, polytetrafluorethylene or rubber-faced rollers 24 bearing on the filtertip portions 6 of the assemblies under spring loading 30, or alternatively appropriately driven fluted discs may be used. In a modification, the discs 9, 10 are each replaced by a spider carrying three circumferentially spaced rollers engaging one knife side edge-on, the spider arms or the spiders themselves being hinged to allow access to the knife.
