Abstract
299,832. Johnstone, J. Aug. 2, 1927. Lawn-mowers.-In lawn-trimming apparatus comprising a pair of rotating bodies whose edges overlap so as to form co-operating cutting or shearing surfaces, the co-operating parts are made in the form of rings or flanges with the outer circumference of each ring overlapping or touching the inner circumference of the other. A disc 1, Fig. 2, co-operating with a roller or drum 5 is recessed, dished, or grooved so as to have a peripheral surface 4 engaging the end of the roller. A lawn-trimmer of the kind described in Specification 11991/07 comprises a. frame 7, Fig 3, mounted on two rollers 8, 9 and provided with straps 10 to receive a handle. An inclined circular cutter or disc 14 of the kind described with reference to Fig. 2 engages with the edge of the roller 8, being pressed against it by a spring 18. The cutter 14 is driven by frictional contact with roller 8 or by the gearing shown. The edge of the roller may be reduced. In a modification the spindle of the roller is bent downwards to support the rotary cutter.
