Abstract

911,307. Folding paper. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG NURMBERG A.G. Sept. 17, 1959 [Sept. 25, 1958], No. 31759/59. Class 100 (1). A rotary folding machine for cutting, assembling and folding newspaper sheets supplied in the form of a web 1 comprises a folding drum 3 having two opposed sets of impaling pins 7, 7<SP>1</SP> and cutting knives 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and an assembling drum 4 one and a half times the diameter of the folding drum and having three sets of impaling pins 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>11</SP> and cutting grooves 11. Consecutive lengths of web fed between the drums are impaled thereon alternately and cut off, cut web lengths on the assembling drum 4 being superposed in turn on the web lengths impaled by the folding drum 3 before the latter are cut off. Each of the sets of impaling pins 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>11</SP> is mounted for backward displacement around the periphery of the assembling drum 4 before a web length impaled thereby is cut so as to shorten the length and prevent the trimming of waste strips therefrom when an underlying web length on the folding drum is cut. Folding blades 5, 5<SP>1</SP> on the drum 3 fold the assembled sheets into the nip of a pair of rollers 8 which deliver the folded sheets to a pocket wheel 9. A roller 12 carrying a spring-biased lever 14 co-operates with the drum 3, the lever 14 bearing against the free ends of the sheets being folded.
