Abstract
831,574. Electric steam irons. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. July 25, 1957 [July 25, 1956; Dec. 12, 1956; April 24, 1957], No. 23593/57. Class 138 (2). An electric steam iron of the kind in which the steam is provided by instantaneous vaporization, is provided with a vaporization chamber 6 into which water is intended to fall, drop by drop, which chamber is defined by an aperture formed in the sole plate 4, a dome 7 mounted on the sole plate, and by the upper face of a vaporization cup 3 mounted in the aperture in intimate contact with the sole plate, the vaporization cup being secured to the sole plate by a hollow screw 10 which opens at its upper end into the vaporization chamber and its lower end outside the cup whereby steam produced at the contact of water drops with the upper face 3<SP>1</SP> of the vaporization cup 3 passes out of the iron through the screw. An auxiliary cup 17 may be disposed beneath the lower surface of the vaporization cup, provided with openings for the passage of vapour, and secured to the lower part of the vaporization cup or to the sole plate 4, or made integral with the screw 10. It may be flexible and makes thermal contact with sole plate 4 and cup 3 by the provision of suitable areas of contact such as a continuous circular boss which makes contact with cup 3, or it may have radial slots which form flexible tongues in contact with the sole plate 4. Cup 3 may be in the form of a disc (Fig. 12, not shown). A vapour distribution groove may be located in the sole plate of the iron and directed towards the front of the iron with an inlet opening opposite the outward edge of the flexible auxiliary cup. When the hollow screw and the flexible auxiliary cup are made integrally provision may be made for the insertion of a tool to simultaneously tighten the cup and screw. Where the sole plate is made of a metal which is affected by furring, a tube made of a material which is easy to defurr may be inserted in the hole of the sole plate, in the immediate vicinity of which the vaporization of water occurs.
