Abstract

830,998. Trimming stalks off brussel sprouts. HOLMES, J. N., and PRIME, F. C. Oct. 23, 1958 [Oct. 23, 1957], No. 33122/57. Class 28 (2). Brussel sprouts 8 have their stalks trimmed off by a reciprocating knife 13 against which they are carried by an endless belt conveyer 2 having holes through which the stalks have been pressed by an operative. At the cutting point a sponge rubber or other soft-surfaced roller 16 bears on the sprout tops. The stalks are led into a V-groove in a fixed plate 11 so that the apex of the groove holds the stalk during cutting. The sprouts are first deposited on the belt 2 from a hopper. Above the belt are fixed inclined plates 9 (Fig. 2, not shown), to deflect surplus sprouts off the belt.
