Abstract

827,686. Beet harvesters. JONGENEEL, A. M. Sept. 4, 1958, No. 28454/58. Class 6(3). Relates to a beet harvester having a spiked pick up wheel 1 co-operating with a pair of horizontal rotary topping discs 3, 4 the larger of which partially overlies a conveyer 7 for topped beets, the beets being fed whilst supported on the disc 4 by an auger 10 extending transversely across the disc in the direction of the conveyer. According to the invention the auger, adjacent to the conveyer, ends in a rotary member 12 having a continuous surface for urging the beets on to the conveyer. The surface is preferably frusto-conical. The machine is generally similar to that described in Specification 741,343 but includes a fixed plate 11 above and parallel to the auger 11 and a deflecting device above the topping discs comprising a comb of fixed prongs 20 cooperating with prongs 16 on a rotary shaft 15. The rotary members are all driven by a common chain-drive 24, from a power-driven shaft 22.
