Abstract

830,865. Guiding webs transversely. HARNDEN Ltd., C. A., and HARNDEN, C. A. May 2, 1958 [March 1, 1958], No. 6645/58. Class 100(1) A fluid control valve controls the supply of oil under pressure to a web guiding apparatus in response to lateral deviations of a web. Lateral deviations of the web cause a reduction in vacuum at a port normally covered by the web, thereby decreasing the vacuum in a cylinder 2 below a piston 7 urged upwardly by a spring 4. The piston 7 and valve spindle 9 thereupon lift under the influence of the spring 4. A port 10, supplied with oil under pressure, is then connected to a port 11 to supply oil under pressure to the piston of a web guiding apparatus, while a port 12 connected to the exhaust side of this piston opens to a discharge port 13b. When the web is in correct lateral positions the piston 7 and spindle 9 are positioned to shut the port 10 from the ports 11 and 12, thereby rendering the web guiding apparatus inoperative.
