Abstract

Class 79(3) [Also in Group XXXVII] In a vehicle provided with twin wheels 6, a feeler anchored to the vehicle chassis 1, extends into the gap between the tyres 6 to indicate the presence of any body which may have lodged therein. As shown in Fig. 1, the feeler is in the form of two concentrically disposed coiled springs 4, 5 rigidly secured to a mounting plate 2. The inner spring 5 is electrically insulated from the plate 2 by means of a bush 7. The springs are in circuit with the vehicle battery and a warning light or audible indicator. In Fig. 3, the feeler is in the form of a pivotally mounted member 9 which is adapted on being struck by a body lodged between the tyres, to deflect so as to operate a switch 12. The latter is wired up to operate an indicator as in the previous case. There may be a second switch 12 to correspond with the other direction of rotation of the road wheels.
