Abstract

3390. Wieland, F. A. Feb. 9. Centrifugal speed indicators; indicating-apparatus; particular-speed alarms.-Apparatus for use on motor road-vehicles to give an alarm and a signal when a predetermined speed is exceeded has means for adjusting and displaying the speed limit and is provided with a counter for registering the infractions. The various speed limits are shown on the translucent sides of a cylinder 3, which is adjusted by a milled head 6, and in which are mounted two electric lamps, one coloured red. The figures are illuminated by the red lamp only when the speed limit is exceeded, the normal lamp serving this purpose at other times. This change is effected when a contact-arm 26, which follows the movements of the governor sleeve, engages one of a series of radial arms 12 of varying length carried by a contact 11 secured to the side of the casing 3, a brush 18 being provided to connect the ring to the negative pole of a battery 20, as shown in Fig. 9. When contact is made between the parts 26, 12, a magnet 43, Fig. 9, is energized, the movement of its armature serving to break the circuit of the lamp 39 and energize the red lamp 45, at the same time sounding a bell 22. The downward movement of the armature 37 actuates a counter 49 through a link 47, thus registering the number of infractions of the speed limit. The whole device is enclosed in a locked box.
