Abstract

A method of joining austenitic alloy steel parts comprises providing a fusion weld deposit therebetween of the following per centage composition:-C 0.10 max; Mn 1.0 to 6.0, Si 0.30 max; Cr 14.0 to 17.0 (preferably 16); Ni 7.0 to 10.0 (preferably 8); Mo 1.0 to 2.0 (preferably 2); Cb up to 0.50; and the balance Fe apart from usual impurities. Preferably also the Cr equivalent percentage defined as % Cr + % Mo + (1.5 x % Si) + (0.5 x % Cb) lies between 15.0 and 19.5, while the Ni equivalent percentage defined as % Ni + (30 x % C) + (0.5 x % Mn) is 10.25 to 13.50.
