A weldable high strength steel has the following percentage composition:- C up to 0À11 Si 0À1 - 1 Mn 1À25 - 2À5 Cr 0À8 - 1À8 Mo 0À2 - 1À5 Zr and/or Ti 0À001 - 0À08 Al 0À003 - 0À15 Fe the remainder The steel may also contain up to 0À15% Nb and/ or V, up to 2À5% Ni and up to 0À5% Cu.
