Abstract

1,223,977. Exothermic compositions. GOLDSCHMIDT A.G. TH. 23 Oct., 1969 [12 Nov., 1968], No. 51950/69. Heading C5G. An aluminothermic mixture comprising Al and iron oxide contains 0À1 to 5% by weight of at least one aluminothermically reducible oxide having a particle size in the range 0À05 to 50 Á. The reducible oxide, which may be in hydrated form, may be iron oxide, chromium oxide, cobalt - aluminium - chromium oxide, an oxide of Mn, Ta, Nb, a vanadate molybdate or tungstate or a spinel. Peroxides and nitrates may be added. The mixture may be used for cast welding,e.g. with the addition of steel scrap and ferromanganese, with a coarse grained basic aluminothermic mixture containing iron oxide.
