Abstract

<PICT:0828598/IV (a)/1> An apparatus for the wet-spinning or wet treatment of artificial filaments consists of a tank having a rising floor which is provided with ribbing running transversely to the direction of travel of the filaments. Preferably, the width and length of the ribbing decrease progressively from the entry to the exit end of the tank. The ribbing may consist of narrow transverse ribs or of pyramidal, waffle-shaped, or spheroidal embossments in the floor of the tank. Guide-rollers for the filaments are desirably located outside the liquid in the tank. As shown, a suitable apparatus comprises an entry section 1, treating section 2, and draining section 3. Treating liquid enters by inlet 4 covered by a screen 5 to minimize turbulence. The rising floor has a ribbing 6 of narrow transverse ribs which decrease progressively in width and depth toward the upper end of the floor. Treating liquid is withdrawn through a drain 7. Filaments 8 to be treated pass around guide roll 9 and under a rod 10 just below the liquid surface, and are withdrawn via rollers 13, 14. The liquid level is adjusted so that, when still, it coincides with the upper rear ridge 12 of the tank.
