An adapter for tube fittings comprises a rigid, tubular element 10 for insertion into a polyethylene tube 13 to be coupled to a standard known fitting 14, and a sleeve 16 which is engaged by a nut 17 screwed on to the fitting, the sleeve being drawn over the end of the tube so that the inner surface of the tube is pressed on to and penetrated by a number of spaced, annular beads or ribs on the element. The external diameter of the innermost-bead 15a is substantially equal to the inner diameter of the tube, and the external diameters of the beads 15b- - 15d increase progressively towards the outermost bead 15e. As shown, the sleeve is provided with an external shoulder 18 forming an abutment for the shoulder 19 of the nut, and an outwardly flared inner surface 20, and the end of the tube abuts a shoulder 21 on the element 10 ; the latter has an outwardly flared, inner surface 24 and a cylindrical outer surface 22 corresponding to the recess 25 in the fitting 14.
