Abstract
827,760. Variable impedance devices. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. July 19, 1957 [Jan. 22, 1957], No. 2275/57. Class 40 (8). A screw adjustment arrangement for a microwave device, e.g. a waveguide, comprises a housing so shaped and dimensioned to receive therein a bush having a hole therethrough, and a bearing or mechanical guiding member having a central hole coaxial with the hole in the bush, said holes being in line with a hole in the waveguide. The screw passes through these holes cutting its own thread in the bush, and adjustably projects into the waveguide. The housing 4 in the form of a circularly sectioned hollow cup is fixed in the wall of waveguide 1 and a centrally bored and tapped circular nut 6 retains in said housing a nylon bush 5 with a hole 5a therein. The adjustment screw 3 is threaded through nut 6 and bush 5 cutting a thread in the latter and extends through hole 2 in the housing into the waveguide 1. A cover cap 7 may be screwed on to the housing. In a modification (not shown) the screw is threaded through the hole 2 in the base of the cup and not through the nut 6, and the bush 5 is slightly smaller than its recess so that the nut 6 does not quite make contact with it.
