Class 75(4) [Also in Group XXXVI] A lampholder for supporting a rod shaped discharge lamp 31 in an optical projector comprises two support members 13, 24 adapted to be attached to metal connectors 32, 33 at the ends of the lamp, and being restrained from translation in any direction other than along the lamp axis and also from angular displacement about the lamp axis whilst being tiltable about any axis perpendicular to the lamp axis, a pin 7 serving to locate the lower support 13 at a predetermined distance from the optical axis of the projector. The lower support 13 is attached by screws 12 to a leaf spring 10 secured to a bridge 6 mounted on two parallel insulators 2, 3 supported on a stand 1 fixed or displaceably mounted in the casing of the projector. The locating pin 7 is secured to the bridge 6. The upper support 24 has a turned up end with a slot 25 which engages about a pin 21 mounted in lugs 23 on a bridge 17 secured to two parallel insulators 4, 5 supported on the stand 1. A spring 19 disposed in a bore in the bridge 17 presses upwardly on the upper support 24. A stop pin 27 on the upper support projects into a blind hole 20 in the bridge 17. The side surfaces of the upper support 24 are cylindrical and contact the lugs 23 to allow the upper support 24 to turn about its own axis. The outwardly projecting ends of the supports 13, 24 have slots for the entries of threaded pins on the metal connectors 32, 33 of the lamp and recesses 15, 30 for receiving end surfaces on the connectors. Nuts 36, 37 on the threaded pins clamp the connectors to the supports 13, 24. Flexible copper bands 16, 28 convey the electric current to the supports 13, 24.
