887,557. Light fittings. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 28, 1960 [May 5, 1959], No. 15436/59. Class 75(4) A fluorescent lighting unit comprises means for supporting on an elongated structure a fluorescent lamp 4, at least one vane 23 mounted on the unit for continuous rotation about a medial axis of the vane substantially parallel to the lamp axis and spaced therefrom by a distance greater than the lamp radius plus half the vane width, and means for producing such continuous rotation of the vane whereby to obscure the lamp, as viewed past the vane, to an extent varying with the vane's instantaneous angular position. Spring clips 24 secure the metal vane to a shaft 11 mounted in bearings 10 secured to the plate 9 and the end portion 13 of plate 8. Threaded bushes on brackets 5 at the ends of an upper channel shaped housing 1 of the unit support both plates. Two coupling blocks 18, 19 secured to the shaft 11 and shaft 20 of a motor 14 mounted on the portion 13 interengage by a pin 21 on the block 19 engaging in a hole 22 in the block 18 to couple the shaft 11 with the shaft 20. The surfaces of the vane may be reflecting. The speed of rotation of the vane is adjustable.
