Abstract

733,958. Lighting fittings. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 26, 1954 [June 18, 1953], No. 16895/53. Class 75 (2). A lighting fitting comprises a reflector 13 supporting a fluorescent lamp 15 and hingedly mounted on a chassis 10 supporting ancillary equipment, the hinge comprising a U-shaped rod 17, the base of the U forming the pivot pin of the hinge and being supported in a bearing member 16 on one edge of the reflector, the two arms of the U passing through apertures in the chassis, the end of one arm 18 being detachably fixed to the chassis for instance by a nut 19 and the other arm 20 being engaged in a bayonet slot 24 in the other edge of the reflector and being held therein by its own resilience. The apertures in the chassis through which the arms pass are formed in lugs or flanges 11 on the chassis and at least one of the two apertures 21, 22 through which the arm 20 passes is elongated to permit lateral movement of the arm 20 when engaging the bayonet slot. The part of the bayonet slot near the edge of the reflector is inclined to the edge of the reflector so that when the reflector is pressed upwards the arm 20 is first displaced by the inclined edges of the slot and then snaps into the base of the slot.
