Abstract
826,879. Resilient mountings; frictional vibration dampers. ARO EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. Aug. 21, 1957 [Jan. 14, 1957], No. 26379/57. Class 108(3) In resilient mounting A, piston 22, supported by spring 24, slides in cylinder 14. Spring 26 fits in a groove in the piston and provides dry friction damping for vertical movements of the piston. Load 12 is supported by shaft 30 and disc 28 which rests on piston 22 and is free to slide on the piston in a horizontal direction, thus providing friction damping. Ring 36, of rubber or neoprene, acts as a horizontal bump stop. Sponge rubber stop pads 38 arrest the piston as it approaches its upper limit of travel and ring 54 performs the same function at the lower limit. Flat coil spring 40 is embedded between the two pads 38 and in conjunction with the pads controls and damps horizontal vibrations. Boot 50 excludes foreign matter from the mechanism.
