Abstract

1354105 Spring units with friction dampers CEMENTATION (MUFFELITE) Ltd 5 Oct 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 45909/70 Heading F2S A vibration isolator comprises (a) two spaced apart support members which are arranged in relation to each other so that relative movement is possible over a limited amplitude, (b) a resilient medium (four coil springs 2 or air or rubber springs, not shown) and (c) a frictional damper 11 which initially opposes relative movement of the support members only when the distance between them rises above a first predetermined value or falls below a second predetermined value, the friction afforded by the damper when in operation being adjustable, The friction surface 11 is backed by a resilient pad 7. Initial relative movement of the support members between the two values is accommodated by deformation of this pad 7, no relative motion (and therefore no friction damping) occurring between the friction surface and the support member it bears on. The friction afforded by the damper is adjusted by a screw 16.
