Abstract

1507161 Torsional vibration dampers METZELER KAUTSCHUK AG 6 March 1975 9336/75 Heading F2S A torsional vibration damper comprises a hub 1 for connection to a crankshaft, an inertia member 2 connected to the hub by an elastomeric element 3 subjected to an initial stress between opposing parallel mounting surfaces 10, 13 of the member and hub, and an adjusting device 5, 6, 7 which is operable to displace an element 4 which forms the mounting surface of one of the members, with respect to the other member to vary the prestress. The mounting surfaces must be such that on relative rotation of hub and inertia member the elastomeric element is compressed. The elastomeric elements are glued, heatsealed or held frictionally to the mounting surfaces. .The invention may be applied to the torsional vibration damper of Specification 1,389,735 (Fig. 3, not shown).
