826,646. Percussive tools. MODERNAIR CORPORATION. Jan. 19, 1956 [Nov. 14, 1955], No. 37158/57. Divided out of 826,644. Class 124. A percussive unit for driving fasteners comprises a handle and head portion, one or both forming a container for compressed gas, a piston carrying a driving blade reciprocating in a driving cylinder, the piston being operated by compressed gas from the container in a driving stroke and also being returned by compressed gas from the container. As shown, in a fastner driving machine of kind described in Specification 826,644, the driving piston 125 has formed, in a depending boss 127, a pair of cylinders 141, situated on opposite sides of the driving blade 129, which co-operate with pistons 142 carried on stems 143 secured to the base of a closure member 134. Compressed air for the return of the piston 125 is supplied from the container 50 through bores 151 in the stems 143. During the driving stroke the air in the cylinders 141 is returned to the container. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the piston is formed with a single centrally disposed piston and cylinder assembly and the driving blade is attached to the outer wall of the depending boss.
