[Also in Groups XXVIII and XXIX] Hosing apparatus, in which steam and cold water are mixed and the resultant hot water is delivered to a length of hose provided with a self-closing nozzle at its discharge end, is arranged to maintain the hose filled with water. Water entering past a non-return valve 7a to inlet 12 passes round a loose fitting valve 41 to passage 15 until the pressure is sufficient to move the valve 41 to the left when water flows freely through ports 44. As the valve 41 moves to the left it engages the valve stem 29 and moves this stem to the left against the force of spring 34 to open the valve 22 which allows steam entering past non-return valve 6a and inlet 11 to pass to the steam passage 14. The steam and water rise in chamber 17 and the resultant hot water passes to the hose 4. If, for any reason, the supply of water ceases or the pressure is reduced sufficiently, the spring 34 will cause the stem valve 22 to close and shut off the steam supply to the passage 14. The closing of the valve 22 causes a movement of the valve 41 to close the ports 44, but owing to the loose fit of the valve a small flow of water can pass into the hose 4. Hand control valves are mounted in the steam and water supply lines and the water line may be provided with a small flow by-pass so that, in effect, the water valve cannot be closed.
