Abstract
335,170. Thompson Manufacturing Co. Oct. 6, 1928, [Convention date]. Valves actuated indirectly.-A coupling device for fluid systems, e.g. a sprinkler system, comprising a fixed underground part 11, 13, 21, and 22, and a detachable nozzle and valve-operating part 60 - - 62 has the parts arranged so that leakage during the coupling and uncoupling of the sprinkler unit is prevented. The coupling device comprises a casing 21 attached to the supply conduit 11, 13, a screwed closure plug 42 with washer 46, a plate valve seat 28, a valve 31, and the sprinkler head 60, 61, 62. In attaching the head, the skirt 71 slides and rotates over the fixed part 22, and the tongue 67 screws back the plug 42 which, when the head has started being coupled, opens the valve 31 by means of the depending pin 50, thereby establishing flow through the passages 25 and grooves in the threaded part 27, and the passage 66 into the coupler head, as shown by the arrows. During coupling and uncoupling of the head, leakage is avoided, since the valve 31 is not opened until the threaded part 64 has entered the threaded opening 26 and is closed before the part 64 leaves the said opening 26.
