Abstract
824,699. Knitting-machines. MONK (SUTTON IN ASHFIELD) Ltd., S. A., and MONK, B. A. June 20, 1958 [March 22, 1957], No. 9395/57. Class 74 (2). Thread carrier selection is achieved on a straight-bar machine by means of solenoids 11, 12 which are selectively energized as determined by the pattern chain of the machine to pivot an arm 1 between abutments 6, 7 on the carrier bars 8, 9, 10. The arm is disposed between bearings 3, 4 of a member 5 driven from the draw mechanism so that it reciprocates on the splined shaft 2. The arm 1 is held normally by a spring 15 between the abutments of the bar 8 and actuation of solenoid 11 or 12 causes a lever 13 or 14 to turn the splined shaft 2 to move the arm into engagement between the abutments on carrier 9 or 10. Alternatively the arm 1 may be pivoted on a reciprocating member and may have a fork-ended extension which embraces a longitudinally disposed rod carried by arms on a shaft mounted in the machine frame. The rod is long enough to provide for the maximum traverse of the reciprocating member and by turning the shaft under the control of solenoids the selected carrier bar may be traversed.
