Abstract
778,472. Knitting machines. MONK (SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD), Ltd., S. A. Feb. 16, 1956 [Jan. 15, 1955], No. 1298/55. Class 74 (2). To enable the traverse of the slurcocks of a straight-bar machine to be varied when the width of the fabric to be knitted is varied, the draw mechanism comprises a slotted lever 12 pivoted at its upper end at 13 and oscillated by the draw cam through a member 11. A member 15 is slidably mounted in the slot 14 of the lever 12 and is engaged by a pin 17 carried by a block 18 slidably mounted in a second lever 19. The lever 19 is pivoted at its lower end at 20 and is coupled at its upper end to a slide 22 which drives the slurcock tie-bar through rack - and - pinion mechanism. A screw 29 mounted on the lever 19 is rotated simultaneously with the namswing or carrier screw through pawl-and-ratchet or chain drive mechanism, and moves the block 18 and member 15 up and down their respective levers to thereby vary the stroke of the draw. The slurcock rail is mounted on arms which are turned to withdraw the slurcocks and permit the catch bar to operate the sinkers in the normal manner.
