Abstract

878,691. Knitting-machines. CO-OPERTIVE WHOLESALE SOCIETY Ltd. May 8, 1958 [Aug. 20, 1957], No. 26210/57. Class 74 (2). Intarsia work can be knitted on a flat machine in which each yarn carrier is raised in its end positions so that others may pass underneath. Each yarn guide carrier comprises a back plate 10 mounted on a slide bar. On the front of the back plate 10 is slidably mounted a cam bar 22 having a downwardly directed U-shaped cam 23 at its centre. Pivotally mounted on the back plate 10 are bell-crank levers 25, 26. Stud 20 is attached to the upper end of the yarn guide 14a which is slidable in arm 14. Before the carrier reaches its end position, the end of the cam bar 22 engages stop block 31, causing sliding movement of the cam bar 22 from a central position relative to the back plate 10. At the same time catch 32 is lifted by cam 29 and drops behind catch 24 locking the cam bar. Cam 23 moves to the right, actuating lever 26 to raise stud 20 and with it yarn guide 14a. For driving the yarn carriers to produce intarsia work there is provided on at least one guide rail a transfer mechanism having tracks which are so located as to co-operate alternatively with a leading selector and a trailing selector carried in housings on a cam box. The cams and selectors are so operated as to move a yarn guide over part of its travel within the edges of the fabric being knitted and to displace the guide out of alignment with independent thread guides which travel over the remainder of the width of the fabric. There is also provided a feed screw located parallel and adjacent the front carrier rail, on which there are mounted movable blocks capable of being intermittently traversed by rotation of the screw to define the limits between which an intarsia panel can be knitted.
