Abstract

1,005,095. Knitting machines. FRANZ MORAT G.m.b.H. April 11,1963 [April 12, 1962], No. 14643/63. Heading D1C. A circular rib knitting machine has a thread gripping and cutting device comprising two pairs of spaced parallel arms 17, 19; 18a, 20, one pair being parallel to the other and movable relatively along an axis perpendicular to their length to a position where the arms 18a and 20 engage-respectively between arms 17 and 19 outside of arm 17, the arms being then movable simultaneously while being turned about the above axis: As shown, bar 5 is mounted in tube 6 and has, at its upper end the armature 9 of an electromagnet 7, the armature 10 of electromagnet 8 being secured to tube 6, the electromagnets being mounted in housing 1. Springs 11, 11<SP>1</SP> bias bar 5 upwards, spring 11<SP>1</SP> engaging at its lower end a middle piece of housing 1 and at its upper end a disc 12 freely slidable on bar 5 which engages the lower end of spring 11 whose upper end engages armature 9. The pairs of arms 17, 19 and 18a, 20 are secured respectively to the lower ends of the bar 5 and the tube 6. Spring 11 is weaker than spring 11<SP>1</SP> so that on energization of coil 7, the pull on aramature 9 carrying bar 5 overcomes the resistance of spring 11 before spring 11<SP>1</SP> is compressed. When electromagnet 8 is energized, it pulls armature 10 and tube 6 upwards until a disc 13 loosely mounted on bar 5 engages middle piece 3. During the simultaneous movement of the pairs of arms, a bolt 6<SP>1</SP> on tube 6 engages a cam 14 on a bush 4<SP>1</SP> beneath electro magnet 8 and a bolt 5<SP>1</SP> on bar 5 engages a cam 15 in a bush 2<SP>11</SP> above electromagnet 7 so that the arms are turned to avoid the rib needles When yarn F is knitted, the device is in position I, Fig. 1, when cutting and gripping in position II and when reinserting the yarn in position III. Electromagnet 8 need not remain energized in position II as tube 6 is held in this position by element 18a attached to bar 5 which is held up by springs 11, 11<SP>1</SP>. When removing the yarn from operation, arm 18a and knife 20 rise relative to arms 17 and 19 so as to clamp and sever the yarn. As shown, cylinder 1 is fastened in a clip 107 carried on an adjacent part 109 secured to the stationary rib cam disc 104. Part 109 carries a thread guiding plate 109a which opens any closed needle latches. Switches 116 carried on disc 104 are operated by cams 117 on dial 103 to energize electromagnets 7, 8.
