823,894. Winding thread, commencing. ROSENKRANZ, C. G., HALSTENBACH, H., and PLUTTE. A. Sept. 9, 1957 [Sept. 18, 1956], No, 28430/57. Class 120(2) In a thread winding machine in which thread is passed automatically from a finished bobbin to the next tube, a guide device is provided which is operable so as to embrace the initial winding region of the bobbin tube over the major part of its periphery and to keep the thread pressed against the periphery of the tube, at the commencement of winding. In the embodiment shown the guide device indicated generally at 16 comprises three support rollers 17, 18, 19 mounted rotatably on a slide slidable tranversely to the tube and over which an endless band 20 of rubber or other flexible material is placed. The rollers 18 and 19 are mounted on levers 25 and 26 swingable about a common pivot 27. Links 30 and 31 bear on the free ends of levers 25 and 26 and are mounted at their other ends on a common axis 32 slidable in a guide 33 and operated by lever 35. In operation when a filled bobbin has been ejected and a new tube 15 placed in positions, a clamping device 13 secures the thread leading to the ejected bobbin 14 and the lever 35 is rocked thus moving the device 16 to the left. The arrangement of levers is such that the band 20 substantially surrounds the periphery of the tube 15 as shown in Fig. 7 thus pressing the thread against the tube so that the end is wound in at the commencement of winding. In the movement of the guide device 16 the thread is brought into contact with a knife edge 21 and severed thereby.
