Abstract
823,712. Valves. SIGMA INSTRUMENT CO. Ltd. June 6, 1957 [June 6, 1956], No. 17537/56. Class 135. A valve for controlling fluid flow comprises a cylindrical valve body 1 having a cylindrical bore therethrough, a circular sectioned member 13 secured in the bore and having a hole there-through that forms a circular valve orifice 21 and a needle type valve member 24 having a collar portion 23 that is a sliding fit in the bore. A circular sectioned plunger 4 is also slidably entered in the bore and has a circular sectioned converging recess 10 which engages with the end of a spindle 25 integral with the valve member 24. The other end of the plunger has a recess 8 accommodating a hardened steel ball 9 which coacts with a lever (not shown) for moving the plunger and actuating the valve. A spring 27 urges the valve member 24 away from the orifice 21. Fluid enters the valve body through an inlet member 17 adapted to accommodate a hose and exhausts through radially directed holes 28. The valve serves as the valve for the gauge head described in Specification 724,228, which head is used in the pneumatic gauge described in Specification 724,205. The valve member 24 and the circular sectioned member 13 are made of a material that is softer than the material that forms the valve body and the plunger.
