Abstract
823,528. Cathode-ray tubes. RANK CINTEL Ltd. July 2, 1956 [June 30, 1955], No. 18919/55. Class 39(1). A counting tube for moving a beam around ten stabilized positions arranged in a circle on fluorescent screen 22, Fig. 1, by means of cyclic switching voltages all of the same amplitude, has two composite stabilizing electrodes 20, 21, Fig. 1, back coupled to orthogonal pairs of deflecting plates 14A, 14B, 15CD, Fig. 2. Electrode 21 as shown in Fig. 4, consists of two sets of plates 26, 28 and 27, 29 each defining a semi-annular space in which the beam is constrained to remain by the usual backcoupling to vertical plates 15CD ; plates 26, 27 and 28, 29 are cross-connected. Semicirculae 30 ensures that on switching on the beam rises to position O. Electrode 20 as shown in Fig. 3, consists of two similar toothed rings 24, 25 back-coupled to horizontal plates 14A, 14B. It is explained that when a cyclic switching voltage is applied to plate 14A the negativegoing excursions move the beam successively to stable positions 1, 2 on the right hand edges of teeth 33, 34. The next excursion moves it to X. After this it is the positive-going excursions which move the beam through positions 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and the negative ones which return the beam via 8, 9 to 0. Teeth 35, 36, 37, 38, 42, 43, 32 are narrower than the beam diameter, as are also spaces 1, 0, 6 and 7. Resistors 16, 17, 18, 19 in the feedback circuits are preferably within the tube envelope.
