Abstract

822,772. Photographic developing apparatus. CHEMISCHE FABRIEK L. VAN DER GRINTEN N.V. July 12, 1957 [July 19, 1956], No. 22248/57. Class 98(2) In a process of development in which a thin layer of liquid is applied to and dried on separate sheets of photographic material, the sheets are transported through a drying zone and preferably centred in the zone by jets of hot air inclined to assist the travel of the sheets through the zone. As shown, liquid developer 4 is applied to both sides of the sheets 6 by rollers 1, 2 having grooved surfaces. The sheet is floatingly conveyed through a drying zone by inclined jets of hot air from nozzles 13 and is received in the nip of disc rollers 14, 15 which rotate at the same peripheral speed as rollers 1, 2. Flaps 16 promote the formation of an air cushion above the sheet to prevent it from touching the wall of chamber 9. The sheet travels image side up and can be inspected through the gap at 17 or by means of a mirror arranged at 17 or the walls of the chamber 9 may be wholly or partially transparent or provided with windows. The hot air entering ducts 11, 12 may be heated by cooling a printing light of a printer feeding the developing apparatus.
