Class 142(2) When bobbin changing is initiated, the top cell 45 is lifted away from the lower cells 47, 48 by an auxiliary box shifting mechanism to provide a gap for ejection of the spent bobbin; the auxiliary mechanism operates more quickly than the normal mechanism so that a gap is produced even if the cells 47, 48 are being lifted at the same time; the final part of the upward movement of the cell 45, as it meets the fresh bobbin inserted by the hammer 22, is effected freely under its own momentum. A cutter 274 for the spent weft is operated by the relative motion between the cells 45, 47, the cut end T extending to the fabric being moved by the shuttle feeler 30 into the mouth of a suction tube 301. During normal weaving, the cells 45, 47, 48 are shifted as a unit by the normal change box motion, which is modified to cater for the greater distance between the cells 45, 47 than between cells 47, 48 due to the presence of a bobbin deflector 51. The change box at the other end of the loom has a weft feeler for each cell, replenishment being initiated electrically under the control of the dobby, when a depleted shuttle is to be picked to the cell 45.
