Abstract

822,488. Transformers. SANGAMO WESTON Ltd. Jan. 25, 1956 [Jan. 31, 1955], No. 2508/56. Class 38 (2). An electric transformer in which the windings 13, 14 are carried on a magnetic core 12 and having the core constructed of a spirally wound strip 15, is characterized in that the ends of the strip are connected together by a member 16 to provide a continuous path for the circumferential flow of the currents induced in the core. The leakage reactance of the core is thereby reduced. In a further embodiment the core comprises a pair of oppositely wound closelypositioned spirals 12a, 12b, the inner ends of the spirals being joined together by a connector 16a and the outer ends by a connector 16b. The ends may be connected by other suitable means. The cores may also be formed from a single length of strip by starting at the centre of the strip and winding on a mandrel in opposite directions to leave a central opening. Specification 330,008, [Class 38 (ii)], is referred to.
