Abstract

822,454. Control of motors. DOLE REFRIGERATING CO. March 13, 1958 [March 13, 1957], No. 8101/58. Class 38 (3). A fan motor 48 for a refrigerated vehicle is adapted to be supplied from an A.C. source when the vehicle is stationary, and from a battery 88 when the vehicle is in motion. The circuit from the battery to the fan motor includes normally closed contacts 116 of an A.C. relay and contacts 120 of a D.C. relay 60 so that, when the vehicle is moving with doorswitches 108 and thermostat 106 closed, as well as dash switch 102 and main switch 74, coil 94 of the D.C. relay is energized and the fan motor is supplied with D.C. If a plug 126 is connected to an A.C. source, a step-down transformer 68 is included in the motor circuit, and a coil 132 of the A.C. relay is energized to break the D.C. circuit to the fan motor. The circuit from the secondary winding of the transformer to the motor now comprises contacts 120 of the D.C. relay and contacts 134 of the A.C. relay and the battery still supplies the control circuit which includes the door switches, thermostat, and dash switch. A signal lamp 104 may be provided.
