Abstract
821,418. Winding capacitors. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. April 11, 1957 [June 28, 1956], No. 20034/56. Class 100(1) [Also in Group XXXVI] A wound type capacitor comprises a. capacitor element of strip form wound from a point between the ends so that the element is wound in doubled form over a substantial part of its length. The capacitance between turns is thus avoided and the value of the capacitor may therefore be determined before winding. A dilectric strip 10 for example of polystyrene, having separate or coated electrodes 11, 12 is associated with two insulating strips. 15 and 16 of equal or slightly greater width that the di-electric strip. The composite strip is then doubled and placed on a split. mandrel 17 and wound. When coated electrodes are used the whole of each surfaceof the di-electric may be coated and a strip at one edge of one side and the other edge of the other side may be burnt away. In addition the ends can be cut with a knife or guillotine with a voltage on it which burns off the metallizings at the end of the strip so that the desired capacitance is produced before winding.
