821,199. Spring wheels. SOC. APPLICAZIONI GOMMA ANTIVIBRANTI SAGA S.p.A. Nov. 12, 1957 7 [Dec. 22, 1956], No. 35293/57. Class 144 (1). A spring wheel comprises a hub 10 having a radial flange disc 11 to the opposite faces of which are attached two rubber ring-like elements 16, 17, and a rigid metal rim 12 coaxial with the hub and having a cylindrical inner periphery 13 from which extend radially two annular rigid flanges 18, 19 to flank the rubber elements 16, 17 and axially precompress them against the disc 11, the flange 18 being located axially by abutment with an inner peripheral rib 15 on the end B of the rim and the flange 19 having a shrink fit within the rim periphery 13. As shown, the flanges 18, 19 are cup-shaped and abut on assembly at an annular radial surface 23 in the mid-plane of the disc 11. The outer peripheries of the flanges have stepped recesses adjacent their meeting surface 23 which together form a U-shaped recess to receive a complementarily-shaped securing-ring 33 which may be split on a diameter or wound into position from strip stock. Both flanges have a shrink fit within the cylindrical inner rim periphery 13, the flanges being water-cooled to protect the rubber elements 16, 17 during shrinkage of the rim thereon. The shape of the flanges provides for engagement of the rim with the periphery of the flange 19 at a position axially inwardly of the end face A of the rim. The exposed faces of the rubber elements 16, 17 are bonded respectively to metal rings 20, 21 against which the flanges 18, 19 bear.
