Abstract

744,837. Vehicle wheels. KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL CO. March 11, 1953 [March 31, 1952], No. 6761/53. Class 144 (1). A wheel 1 has a cover disc 15 held thereon by means 19 on an axial flange 18 of the cover lying radially within the bead seat 13 of the wheel rim 2, separate co-operating means 20, 22 on the cover flange and bead seat preventing relative rotation thereof. As shown the cover 15 is formed with a return bent peripheral bead 17 which abuts the rim flange 14 and leads into the axial flange 18 the axially inner edge of which is formed with axially and radially outwardly directed resilient teeth 19 to bite into the under surface of the rim bead seat 13 for holding engagement therewith. In radial alignment with valve holes 9 and 16 in the rim and cover, mating depressions 22, 20 are formed in the bead seat 13 and cover flange 18 respectively to locate them against relative rotation liable to damage a tyre valve 10 extending through the holes 9, 16. In alternative constructions the depression 20 in the cover extends axially to the flange edge to facilitate assembly and removal of the cover. Alternatively, the depression 20 in the cover flange may be replaced by opposed tongues struck radially outwardly to embrace a pin or depression in the rim bead seat, or by a single tongue arranged to extend radially outwardly into an aperture in said bead seat.
